Remember when we were kids and our lives weren’t overscheduled? When the opportunity to host another #DisneyKids Preschool Playdate presented itself, I jumped at the chance. We all love a good flash sale, so why can’t we have flash playdates in that same spirit? Why do we overthink everything as parents? This year, I happily threw a flash porch #DisneyKids Preschool Playdate in my neighborhood.
As a kid growing up in NY, I’d tell my mom that I was running over to my neighbor’s house and “call for her”. I still have no idea why we used that term, but it was this impromptu and spontaneous ability that we’ve lost as adults. Nowadays, we send a text first to let someone know we are going to call them on the phone. Fellow moms, why do we do that?
My goal for our #DisneyKids Preschool Playdate was simple and I wanted to kick it old school style. Cupcakes, ice cream cups with the little wooden sticks, and a big bowl of popcorn thanks to Pop Secret. Along with some Disney decorations, this was so easy and effortless, I realized it was liberating. It wasn’t over the top, it didn’t require a lot of work, and guess what? The kids were just happy to meet up and play with each other.
Without the self-inflicted worries and pressure that we put on ourselves as parents, I was able to enjoy this along with the other moms and the kids had a blast. With our karaoke machine churning some Disney tunes, the kids enjoyed screaming down the street in a golf cart ride, making chalk art, and riding on our Step2 rollercoaster.
At the end of our playdate, everyone received a small goodie bag with HP Social Media Snapshots paper to use for capturing special moments, Disney stickers, and coloring sheets. Our surprise giveaway, thanks to American Tourister, was a Sofia the First suitcase! My daughter has one and loves using her suitcase as a big kid. I love it for the high-quality and it’s a perfect size to #PackMoreFun on our family travel adventures.
My daughter was proud to present the American Tourister suitcase as a giveaway, and she was very happy to keep Dory, thanks to Pillow Pets. When it comes down to it, having a playdate can be easy and completely unplanned. Maybe we’d be doing our kids a favor by providing them with opportunities to gather with friends, family, or neighbors at the spur of the moment like we did back when we were kids.
Having this flash porch #DisneyKids Preschool Playdate reminded me that being flexible doesn’t just make it easier for me as a mom. It offers my kids the chance to learn flexibility and spontaneity when it comes to meeting up with friends. Perhaps we should all try to gather this summer on porches for flash playdates more and text a little less? Crazy thoughts, I know.
