9 years ago today, I anxiously headed uptown to the Upper East Side in Manhattan very early in the morning to become a mom. He arrived at 37 weeks and that was a huge accomplishment. We almost met very early at 30 weeks after a partial abruption, but we were able to wait to meet each other and it had to be carefully monitored and planned. We stayed at the hospital a few extra days so that he could stay under the bili lights to receive some phototherapy for jaundice, and I hung out in postpartum to get a couple of blood transfusions.
The first few weeks are an absolute blur to be completely honest. I remember wondering what he would look like as he grew. He was born with a full head of dark hair and the nurses at the hospital said they called him a rockstar baby in the nursery. I would get stopped on the street in New York City while out strolling around because he would offer a smile and show off his blue sparking eyes to anyone.
He made me a mom 9 years ago today and I’m so thankful.
