Zootopia Movie Review

After viewing the trailers for Zootopia, we decided (with much anticipation) to take both my 4-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son this past weekend. With a packed theater, this movie entertained both kids and adults based on the number of laugh-out-loud moments as well as an impromptu dance party that occurred during the Shakira tune at the end.

Here are the results of my request for one-sentence reviews by my family of moviegoers:
Daughter: That was funny and silly, can we see it again?
Son: It was great, but I think some kids might get scared in a few parts and want to cover their eyes.
Husband: I liked it better than Inside Out!
Myself: Hysterical, clever, entertaining, and loved the take-home message.

Clearly, we enjoyed Zootopia, and it is a well-deserved hit. Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde delivers tons of witty lines and Ginnifer Goodwin is the perfect go-get-it bunny as Judy Hopps. As Disney movies have always had, there is a villain, and there are a few scenes that may seem scary to little eyes. Sweet cheese and crackers, there is also one scene that some may find “questionable”, but I honestly thought it was hilarious (involving animals that prefer to go au naturel). Beyond the adorable characters and fantastic storyline, what I loved most about Zootopia was the clear take-home messages.
1. Life is a bit messy
2. We all make mistakes
3. Change starts with you

While the main characters have to step outside their comfort zone, they also have to challenge their preconceived notions about other animals. Judy Hopps breaks down barriers as the first rabbit officer in the Zootopia police department while we meet some of the most entertaining animals I’ve ever seen on film. Two characters served up some of the biggest “grown-up” laughs that I heard. Flash, the “fastest” sloth at the DMV, with impeccable comedic timing and Mr. Big, the most feared crime boss, who is a cross between Vito Corleone and Tony Montana.

Zootopia is an all-around fun film that will entertain the entire family with three words. Skunk butt rug. Have a great time at the movies and click here for some free downloadable Zootopia coloring sheets!

I did not receive tickets for this review. My family purchased tickets (as well as popcorn). The opinions expressed here are entirely my own…plus a 4-year-old, 8-year-old, and husband.
