It seems like an absurd question. I mean, c’mon, how could a visit to the dentist be any fun? A few weeks back, I finally set out to research a pediatric dentist in our new town. Since relocating last summer, it was on my list of things to do (later). Big decision here, since this would only be Allie’s second trip to a dentist in her lifetime. Jack is a pro and thankfully sets a good example for his sister when it comes to doctor visits.
With recommendations in hand, I narrowed it down and set up an appointment for both of them to have their exams at the same time. Why wouldn’t I schedule them back-to-back? It seems to work well this way for us because Jack takes the lead and then Allie wants to do whatever he is doing.
Of course, in anticipation for our dental visit, we did quite a bit of prep work. I had a “practice appointment” in Allie’s room earlier that week. I received 47 shots and a very thorough dental/orthopedic/cardiac assessment from my kids, armed with a slew of Doc McStuffins medical equipment. This preparation seems to help anytime we have any type of upcoming doctor appointment. We’ve also encouraged proper dental hygiene since they were infants and have incorporated our trips to the dentist into their early lives – just as we would for well visits to our pediatrician.
As it turns out, I’m not sure I could have imagined a more delightful dental experience. I know we are talking about a dental appointment for kids – so how well could it really go. All I can say is my kids left with huge smiles, heads held high and proud, and very excited. Aside from some preparation, encouragement, and starting young, I attribute our positive experience to the mood in this dental office. They genuinely seem to like what they do and it shows. Truly fun and friendly, very patient, and generous with their time, every member of the staff made my kids feel comfortable and welcome.
