LEGO KidsFest

We attended our first LEGO KidsFest the other weekend and I wanted to offer our family review. I should first disclose that we are a LEGO-lovin’ family so this event was calling us. My 7-year-old son absolutely loves LEGO sets and his room is typically a LEGO land mine. Naturally, we were all very excited to attend LEGO KidsFest which was sold out in our city (Nashville).

We arrived as it was opening for the day and entry was very quick and easy with no lines and no issues. We received a map as we were walking in and as soon as both of my kids saw the life-size LEGO statues, they went crazy.

Areas were clearly designated and it was very spacious, with plenty of larger-than-life figures displayed. My kids both wanted to look around but really wanted to get in on the action. There was a nice mix of displays, activities, shopping, and areas to use LEGO’s. I loved how they broke it out so that Star Wars was all together, Disney, Ninjago, etc. My littles were hard at work and it was time for a snack break before we knew it. Honestly, we were unimpressed with the food options but I’m not sure if that was related to this specific venue or the event. Everything was incredibly overpriced – and I do understand that snacks, drinks, and food will always be jacked up at these type of events. What I don’t like is when the quality and options are so poor on top of overpricing everything including water. For the size of the venue and the amount of people, it just seemed the food area was poorly planned and managed.

The time flew by at LEGO KidsFest and we wrapped up our day with a visit to the pop-up shop. We enjoy visiting regular LEGO stores but there was a nice display of items available for purchase from LEGO keychains to big sets. Creation Nation was our favorite area.

Here is a list of what I think LEGO KidsFest had going for it and what I felt could use some improvements:

Positive side of attending LEGO KidsFest – Life-size displays
– It is truly a LEGO kingdom with a lot of variety to satisfy any LEGO fan
– It was very spacious with opportunities to participate in activities, build, enjoy the displays, and shop.

Where improvements could be made
– We chose the morning session but it felt a little overpriced for the amount of time given for each session
– Food options and prices were unacceptable – even for this type of event
– It would have been fun to see some dress-up LEGO characters and/or had more of an interactive space related to the LEGO movie

While each member of Unboxed Family gave LEGO KidsFest a thumbs up, we probably wouldn’t feel the need to return next year. Overall, I do feel that it is probably worth checking out if you have a LEGO fan in your home.
