Cinderella was my favorite story when I was little. In fact, there is really only one book from my childhood that I still have to treasure and it sits in my office on top of a shelf for safe keeping. Sure, it is just a beaten up old book that clearly has seen better days. And while I could go out and buy a nice, new, shiny, fresh-paged version for my 3-year-old daughter, I think I’ll keep this one for her instead.Clearly with a quick glance, you can see from the condition of this book a) I must not have handled things with care as a child and b) I did not have very clean hands. But as I open this book, I immediately recognize my favorite pages and distinctly remember looking at them through the eyes of a little girl. As I began to write this post, I thought about how I could use some great photo apps and shine up the photos of these worn pages using filters to make them look better, but the organic beauty of it would be lost. Best to show it off as is – and I find something pure in that.
I love how it has truly come full circle. Now I love watching my 3-year-old dig through her dress-up bin of clothes and ask me if I’d like a picture with her dressed up as Cinderella, or Rapunzel, Anna, or Elsa.
This is one of my favorite pictures that we took during our trip to Walt Disney World in 2012. My little 6-month-old dressed up at Cinderella’s Royal Table. Her blue eyes perfectly matched her dress.
Of course, I’m looking forward to seeing Cinderella, the live-action feature film opening tomorrow in theaters everywhere. It looks incredibly entertaining with an ensemble cast including Cate Blanchett. The story, cast, costumes, and set design, all look so incredibly well done.
I sit and look up at my childhood book in my office as if I’m glancing at an old friend. Disney’s Wonderful World Of Reading Books, copyright 1974. How glad I am to have this book to share with my kids. Did you have a favorite Disney storybook?
Wow! I had the exact same book as a little girl. It was one of my favorites and the reason why Cinderella is still my favorite Disney princess <3 How special to be able to share it with your own daughter.
I also had this book!! The illustrations on the front and back pages were my favorite for some reason…like the fun was beginning before the story could even catch up!
Ahhh I had that exact book when I was a kid. MY absolute favorite!! #DisneySMMoms
Thanks, Heather. BTW, I really enjoy your blog. 🙂
