We were lucky enough to see Peter Gabriel at Jones Beach this past Sunday night. It was awesome. He is only playing a handful of dates, and luckily for us, Jones Beach was one of them. He played an acoustic set first which included Shock The Monkey, Solsbury Hill, etc. and then the second set was electronic which was incredible. The on-stage lighting was something I’d never seen before (and I’ve probably been to close to 100 concerts). Very war-of-the-worlds-futuristic and very cool. Third set was what everyone was excited about – Peter along with the original band played So – in its entirety. He was incredible.
I was able to catch up with old friends when we arrived at the amphitheatre. I used to volunteer for an organization that recovers leftover food from concert venues and donates it to area shelters so it doesn’t go to waste. Through this organization, www.rockandwrapitup.org, I learned a lot about the music industry (good and bad) in my early 20’s, and was given a lot of opportunities to see many shows, events, and go backstage. The original venue where it was all started up was Jones Beach (located in the town I grew up in). It is a beautiful theatre located right next to the beach, on the water, and I love going there. It is a great volunteer group, that helps feed the hungry and is run by wonderful people.
Below are some pics and a few videos of the show…
