How many water shoes have you bought your kids over the span of their lifetime? Yep, me too. That is why I am so happy to write this review! No, really, this is a big accomplishment. I have finally conquered…
Let me start off by saying that I do not buy a ton of shoes for my kids. Actually, I think we are foot frugal when it comes to kids shoes. They each typically wear one pair every day to school. No varying color choices or styles. In the summer, we usually switch off with sandals for my daughter (I love See Kai Run), sneakers for my son, and water shoes. When the temperature begins to rise outside, so does my water shoe shopping. Every year it was a complete fail because within a week or so, there was discomfort, blisters, difficulty keeping them on, or sliding out of them. So we would buy another pair with a different style only to end up with the same result. I started to think I was asking too much. As a nurse, mom, and smart shopper, here was my list of what I needed from water shoes for those little feet:
- Safe. No open toes to get sunburned or scraped toenails. No plastic rubber slip-ons (although convenient). Most schools/camps do not allow the rubber-molded water shoes that every other kids seems to own. Why? Because they are not safe. I know they are popular, many people swear by them, and you all know the brand I’m talking about. Google them and you’ll see pediatric emergency room visits directly attributed to those water shoes, escalator accidents, and various injuries. Also, I might throw in, no plastic or chemical odor that will aide in the “what just died on your feet” upon shoe removal smell.
- Easy. Within reason, I wanted a pair of water shoes that could be easy for my 3-year-old to get on by herself within a minute or so.
- High Quality. Honestly, if I’m going to pay a lot for a pair of shoes that will last 2 or maybe 3 months, can they be made well so they don’t fall apart in the middle of the summer? It would make me feel better.
- Comfortable. No rubbing, chafing, no blisters = no complaints.
- Style. Could they be reasonably appealing to the eye? I’m fine with bold colors, but neither blinding nor blinking, please.
It’s a daunting task, but this year is different. There will be no saga! Let me tell you why. I discovered Pediped Footwear. I luckily found a pair of Pediped® Flex shoes early last winter by accident at a small clothing boutique. My son loved them and I was impressed with the quality. Fast forward, he has worn them every single day. So when I found out that Pedipeds made various water shoes, I decided to take a leap of faith with my high expectations. Well, I have found our summer water shoes in the Pediped® Flex Sahara. These water shoes are everything I could have wanted!
Made with a breathable neoprene lining, we find them soft enough but with a high-standard of support, including arch support, velcro closure, and flexible protective rubber toe caps. Best part? Machine washable! According to Pediped’s website, “Pediped® Footwear is a smart choice for parents concerned with the long-term development of their children’s feet. Pediped® has been awarded the America Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Acceptance for creating shoes that promote healthy foot development.”
These water shoes exceeded all of my requirements! So to break it down, here is why I love the Pediped® Flex Sahara water shoes:
- High Quality
- Safe
- Eco-friendly
- Comfortable and supportive
- Easy to take on and off
- Stylish
- Machine Washable
So how did we put these to the test? During our trip for the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration and our extended week-long vacation, my kids wore these water shoes every day. Tested through all the Disney Parks in 95+ degree temps, rain, water rides, and at the pool, these Pediped® Flex Sahara’s simply rocked. Over 25+ miles over 10 days and never a single complaint, no blisters, no rubbing.
My 3-year-old has a tough time finding comfy shoes because, well, check out these feet!! She loved her Pedipeds because she didn’ have any ouchies and I loved them because she could put them on in 30 seconds!
My son who was already a Pediped® fan and wore his Pediped Flex Sahara’s every single day and walked miles and miles. When I asked him how they felt he replied, “I forgot they were even on, they feel soooo comfy”. We park-hopped and had a very active family vacation.

Pediped are my favorite shoes for my kids! I have probably bought 15 pairs over the years for my three kids 🙂 They last so long (very durable) and I love that they can be machine washed. I’ve not bought their water shoes but now, I will!
Hi Julie, I’m so glad I discovered Pedipeds this year and they really are super durable. I can honestly say they are the highest-quality shoes I’ve found for my littles. My son has Pediped Flex Jake’s for school (and they’ve held up beautifully). These Sahara water shoes definitely are made with that same high quality. Thanks for your comment! 🙂
Thanks for posting the review – I ordered some today! The “other” water shoes just don’t work for us and I am thrilled to have this option! Just hope I ordered the right size!!
Hope they fit great and thanks for commenting! One of mine has a super narrow foot and the other has gigantic wide feet. This style fit them both beautifully which is really unusual. I feel as if we put these water shoes through the ultimate test at Disney. I hope they work for you as much as they are for us. 🙂
