TKO’d by a diningroom table

So, the diningroom table won in it’s scuffle with Jack. I had no idea this was a common occurence/right of passage through childhood. Apparently it is. When I carried Jack into our pediatrician’s office, he took 1 look at Jack and said, “let me guess. diningroom table?”

I knew as soon as I saw how much he was bleeding that he would need sutures (we don’t use the word stitches as Jack is afraid of stitches but not sutures).

The ridiculous part to this was Allie had been discharged from the hospital the night before, and I had already been to the pediatrician’s early that morning per the instructions to check Allie’s wheezing.

So, there we are. Our doc tells me that it’s too deep for dermabond (which I figured) so he sets me up to meet his “cut guy” who apparently sews up all the kids in the area. In the meanwhile, all the girls that work at the pediatrician’s office are “comforting” Jack with a cookie, stickers, a coloring book, and he starts to realize this isn’t so bad. We were able to meet our cut guy at the emergency room at a local hospital so there was no wait. And Jack was fine for about 5 minutes. But I knew realistically an almost 4-yr old was not going to sit still so we got him secured and he got 3 internal and 7 external SUTURES. I stood over him and we talked about Santa and rudolph the entire time, but his clothes were soaked in sweat when it was all over. And the nurse looked at him and said, “this is called the little boy’s diningroom table scar”.

Before getting the SUTURES…

And after…

I’m not even sure what else to say. Hope everyone had a good weekend!
