2011…what a year! I like to look ahead, but wanted to take 1 post as we looked back at the past year, to recognize all the big moments our little family has had. We are thankful for all the experiences both big and little, good and not so good.
I read something recently that I believe is very true… some people and experiences come into our lives as a blessing, while others as a lesson.
So, I hope it is okay to share some of our 2011’s highlights.
Jack started attending preschool, eating in a lunchroom with his school pals, riding a school bus to/from Grandma’s house, and had his 1st summer day camp! He also started to write his first name, knows his phone number and home address. He rode his first rollercoaster and ferris wheel with enthusiasm. Jack went to Disney World in 2011 for the 1st time and the look on his face when he met ALL the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Pals is something we will never forget. Over the summer, he welcomed his job as big brother, and is doing such a great job. 10 sutures, daily breathing treatments continue after the bout with RSV, but he is so compliant and easy going about it. Way to go Jack!
Rob worked his butt off throughout 2011. He landed a new job! Between the new job and a new baby, he is busy as ever. He also had a big birthday milestone. Ahh, to be 21…plus a few years. 😉 At the end of July, he became a dad to a healthy baby girl AND got to see U2 in concert. Not too shabby. We know this little girl is going to always keep her daddy on his toes, and Jack loves spending time playing rock and roll band with him, building tents, and going on bear hunts inside our house.
As for myself, I’ve tried to just take it all in. I think it is safe to say that pregnancy does not really agree with me. 2 tough pregnancies but 2 great outcomes = totally worth it 🙂 I worked part time until I couldn’t, but was lucky to have OB’s that managed things well, and ultimately am beyond grateful that we welcomed a healthy baby girl this summer! 4 blood transfusions would fall under the lessons category, not under highlights, but it reminded me to feel lucky/thankful because I felt better heading home and grateful for our family of 4! I’m back to working part-time, and hoping 2012 has less trips to a doctor’s office for everyone!
Lastly, is our Allie girl. She joined us in July instead of August and we are so thankful for her arrival! She is a strong baby, loves to watch her big brother, and recently is happiest laying on her tummy looking around. She took a hit with RSV and bronchiolitis and went through a lot during her stint in the hospital but came out, recovered, and we are so grateful. We are so lucky that Marie has joined us for the days I work. She takes great care of Jack and Allie and they love her. Allie loves to babble and grab things, and we are all thankful she is learning to sleep. 🙂
So looking back on 2011, we all feel very thankful. We are excited about 2012. Happy New Year!
